John and I have been to both Egypt and Israel, although not in the same trip of course. When we were in Egypt we had a driver one day and I wanted to drive over to just see the Suez Canal since I probably wouldn’t be back again. He hesitated quite a lot before agreeing to drive over, I think he wanted to pick an obscure spot. We did see it, didn’t get out of the car, and left without incident. After your discussion on the value the world places on this “short cut”, I can see how lucky we were (this was probably 20 yrs. ago). Your comment on Egypt’s tourist trade being down 95% since 2011 is really a grave concern, I know from when we were there that it is a major industry for the people. Link that to all the unrest and chaos descending on the countries of the middle east and it is truly frightening. I think you are passing through all of these danger areas just in time. It’s looking very much like Jordan is starting to mobilize troops against ISIS and this may be the beginning of a direct confrontation.
I will continue to pray for your safe passage through the storm and into safe harbor in Turkey.
All the Best!
